SnowTrex Award 2025: The most popular ski resorts and accommodations

In 2025, Germany’s leading winter tour operator SnowTrex will present the SnowTrex Award for the twelfth time to the most popular ski resorts and accommodations in winter sports destinations. Following the last winter, 70 accommodations and 76 top European ski resorts can now look forward to receiving the coveted award, which is based on the ratings of SnowTrex customers. All winners of the SnowTrex Award 2025, who have been honoured with the golden seal ‘Best Place to Ski’ or ‘Top Hotel’, can now also be viewed online.

The successful start to the 2024/25 winter was driven by excellent early booking demand. And despite the challenging weather and snow conditions in the Alps, this booking situation was maintained until spring. This sustained high level of travel enthusiasm among SnowTrex customers ultimately meant that, one year after its 25th anniversary, TravelTrex GmbH was able to welcome more than 111,000 travellers in the past financial year.

A trend that has long been established was also observed here: when deciding on a specific travel destination, customers continue to be guided primarily by the reviews of other travellers. Based on this data, which SnowTrex has been evaluating in detail at the end of each season since 2013, the most popular accommodations and ski resorts are then determined for the SnowTrex Award. As a result, 76 ski resorts and 70 hotels and flats from five popular Alpine countries will now be able to bear the ‘Best Place to Ski’ and ‘Top Hotel’ seals in 2025.

Austria, Italy, and France remain top destinations in 2024/25

In addition to numerous ski resorts that have been very popular in the past, the winners for 2025 also include accommodation in destinations that were either newly discovered or rediscovered by SnowTrex customers during the past winter. Accordingly, the ‘newcomer rate’ in both categories was just under 31 percent overall. Austria is and remains a top destination for ski holidaymakers. The most popular ski resort destinations in the 2024/25 winter once again included numerous customer favourites, such as the slopes in the Zillertal, Hochkönig, Ötztal and Wilder Kaiser. However, there are also some new additions, including the Bad Kleinkirchheim ski resort in Carinthia.

The ski resorts in Italy, traditionally a popular travel destination, also continue to enjoy great popularity. These include the classic Kronplatz and Val di Fassa-Carezza in South Tyrol, as well as Livigno and Sulden, located a little further east. The same applies to the winning ski resorts in France, which now include long-standing SnowTrex favourites such as Les 3 Vallées, Les 2 Alpes and Val Cenis Vanoise, as well as newcomer Le Grand Domaine. Two other Alpine countries also scored highly with customers. In Switzerland, these include Arosa-Lenzerheide and Davos Klosters Mountains as classic ski resorts, while Grimentz-Zinal, Vercorin and the sophisticated Zermatt were also very well received. In Germany, the Garmisch-Classic – Zugspitze ski resort was once again a hit, as in the past, but now shares the 2025 award with the Hochficht ski resort.

Favorite accommodations: between classics and new additions

In terms of accommodations, the Hotel Blü – bin so frei in Bad Hofgastein and the Wildkogelhaus 2005m mountain hut in Neukirchen am Großvenediger have been impressive in Austria for several years. As have some new award winners such as the Hotel Soulsisters in Kaprun. In Italy, the Dolomites Hotel Union in Dobbiaco, the Hotel Bambi am Park in Solda al Ortles and Der Brunnerhof in Mühlbach in the Puster Valley are among the most popular accommodations, not least because of their guest comfort.

In France, L’Orée des Pistes in Saint Sorlin and Les Hauts de Valmeinier once again received excellent ratings, partly due to their proximity to the slopes. And with that, the Hotel Bären in Interlaken and the SWISSPEAK Resorts Meiringen in Switzerland are also among the favourites of SnowTrex customers. In Germany, the Gasthof Anötzlehen in Berchtesgaden and Dorint Sporthotel Garmisch-Partenkirchen impressed as well.

How the SnowTrex Awards are awarded

SnowTrex always focuses on the aspects that are particularly important to guests when choosing their accommodation. These primarily include criteria such as the cleanliness of the premises, the quality of the catering and whether the ski resort is also suitable for beginners. To make it easier for ski enthusiasts to decide on their next trip year after year, SnowTrex records these criteria and other points in a detailed feedback form that is sent to all guests after their stay. The answers obtained from this form are directly incorporated into the customer reviews, which are transparent and available in detail for each trip offered.

Based on these reviews and the recommendation rates determined, for example, in relation to service, catering, accommodation facilities or the quality and additional offers in the ski resort, the SnowTrex Award is then presented annually. To receive an award, accommodation must achieve a recommendation rate of at least 80 percent, while ski resorts must achieve a rating of at least 8 out of 10 points.
