SnowTrex Award 2023: The most popular ski resorts and accommodations

As Germany’s leading winter tour operator, SnowTrex has once again identified the most popular ski resorts and accommodation in winter sports resorts in 2023 and presented them with the SnowTrex Award. This year, 89 accommodations and 74 European ski resorts received the coveted award. Again, several thousand ratings from SnowTrex-customers formed the basis for the award. The winners of the SnowTrex Award 2023 can be viewed online immediately and are now entitled to wear the golden seal “Best Place to Ski” or “Top Hotel” on site.

In the first full winter without Corona restrictions, people’s desire to travel was unbroken. SnowTrex was pleased with an invoiced turnover of 50 million euros and more than 100,000 customers. A decision on where to go on a skiing holiday is made primarily based on reviews from other customers. In this context, the most popular accommodation and ski resorts have been awarded the SnowTrex-Award at the end of the season by SnowTrex since 2013. In 2023, 89 ski resorts and 74 hotels and apartment buildings from five popular Alpine countries will be awarded the “Best Place to Ski” and “Top Hotel” seals – more than ever before.

Austria, Italy and France shine with top destinations

In addition to many ski resorts that were already very popular in the past, the 2023 winners also include new destinations that SnowTrex customers only discovered for themselves in the past winter. The “newcomer rate” for ski resorts was just under 20 percent, and for accommodation even over 50 percent. Austria continues to be the most popular destination for skiing holidaymakers. Among the most popular destinations were once again many favourites, such as the ski resorts Hochkönig, Kitzbühel, Mayrhofen & Hippach, Silvretta Arena and SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser – Brixental, but also some new discoveries, including Goldeck Sportberg, Schlick 2000, Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis and the Skiregion Hochoetz-Kühtai.

The ski destinations in Italy also continue to enjoy great popularity. These include the classics 3 Zinnen Dolomiten, Paganella, Bormio and Livigno as well as new ones, Monte Bondone, Pejo or Val Gardena/Alpe di Siusi. The winning ski resorts in France are characterised by a mixture of long-time favourites of SnowTrex customers such as Les 3 Vallées, Les 2 Alpes and Tignes-Val d’Isere and the newcomers Alpe d’Huez Grand Domaine Ski or Valfréjus & La Norma. In addition, destinations in two other Alpine countries were also convincing. In Switzerland, ski resorts such as Arosa-Lenzerheide, Davos Klosters Mountains or Grindelwald/First & Kleine Scheidegg/Männlichen came out on top, and in Germany, the ski resort Garmisch-Classic, Zugspitze took the top position.

In terms of accommodation, in Austria the Hotel Blü – bin so frei in Bad Hofgastein, the Berghotel Ehrenbachhöhe in Kitzbühel or the Hotel Grüner Baum in Zell am See have been among the winners for several years in a row. As for Italy, on the other hand, the Dolomites Hotel Union in Toblach, the Hotel Alpina Mountain Resort in Sulden am Ortler and the Hotel Stocknerhof in Mühlbach im Pustertal are also particularly popular for their comfort. Accommodation in France, like the L’Orée des Pistes in Saint Sorlin and the Les Hauts de Valmeinier in Valmeinier received excellent ratings again, in part because of their proximity to the slopes. In Switzerland, the Hotel Bären in Interlaken and the Hotel Strela in Davos are among the favourites of SnowTrex customers, while in Germany, the Dorint Sporthotel Garmisch-Partenkirchen was also a winner.

This is how the SnowTrex-Awards are presented

The important questions that customers ask themselves when choosing their accommodation are essential for SnowTrex as well. They are usually: Is the accommodation clean? How good is the food? Or is the ski resort visited also suitable for beginners? To make it easier for many thousands of winter holidaymakers to decide on a ski destination every year, these and other questions are part of a comprehensive questionnaire that SnowTrex sends to all guests to answer after their trip. The answers then flow directly into the customer ratings and are displayed in detail for every bookable trip.

Both these customer ratings and the recommendation rates, for example in relation to service, catering, and facilities of the accommodation or quality and additional services of the ski resort, form the basis for the SnowTrex Award, which is presented after the end of each season. The coveted SnowTrex Award 2023 is therefore only awarded to accommodation and ski resorts with a recommendation rate of at least 80 percent (accommodation) or a rating of at least 8 out of 10 (ski resorts).
